Description
This 1974 BMW 2002 B Sedan Race Car #002 is clean California titled and insured and has been racing for the last nine years with the Vintage Auto Racing Association (VARA). Thoroughly updated and race modified, #002 is being maintained in top mechanical condition by Absolute Engineering, Goleta CA. It has a 2.0 L. BMW VARA B Sedan spec engine, completely rebuilt by La Jolla Independent BMW Service for durability and endurance with about 20 hours on it. It has dual 45DCOE Weber carburetors and is equipped with all up to date safety equipment, a VARA Log Book, all service records and rebuild and maintenance invoices totaling $63,749. It is in excellent mechanical condition with “Race Patina” cosmetics. The car is race ready, was very competitive in the VARA races at Willow Springs Raceway November 4-5, 2017 and is ready to race now.
History
BMW #002 was totally modified for racing from a stock 2002 and has been regularly maintained, updated and raced since its conversion. A full engine rebuild was completed in 2013 using a 2.0 L. 320i core bored to race pistons, polished crankshaft, stress relieved and balanced connecting rods, custom Ross forged pistons, Korman modified E21 head, Schrick 304 camshaft, aluminum flywheel, Stahl headers, oversized stainless steel valves and Schrick dual valve springs with titanium retainers. Since the rebuild the engine has been run about 20 hours. It has a Jim Blanton modified 3.90 ratio differential, Wilwood four piston front disc brakes and 250mm 4x100 rear drum brakes, a BMW metallic solid clutch, flex disc and Sachs Sport pressure plate, modified Tii front coil-over suspension, BMW rear suspension with Bilstein Sport shocks all around, a removable 90db exhaust system, updated 12 gallon RS212 Fuel cell, Holley Red fuel pump for 110 octane race fuel, Accusump M10 Race oil system, complete FireCharger 2.3L AFFF racing fire system, full updated custom roll cage, two Racequip race seats and safety harnesses, transponder, four 13 x 7 wheels carrying Hoosier R7 205/60ZR and 4 Toyo Proxes R888R 205/60R spares, and a four speed BMW transmission rebuilt by BMW Rennsport and reconditioned by Absolute Engineering.
