Description
Originally owned by Newman Hass - comprising of Paul Newman (famed film actor & racing enthusiast) and Carl Haas (successful race team owner, entrepreneur & Lola Cars North American importer). This is the combination that has joined forces to design, build, develop and race a completely new car for prestigious C.A.R.T./U.S.A.C. Championship Series of North American Oval and Road races of which the famed Indianapolis '500'is the highlight. The car qualified and raced in the 1983 Indianapolis 500 (driver Steve Krisiloff). Designed by Eric Broadley, the T700 was conceived around the new regulations for 1983 regarding skirt height and features very wide, long ground effect venturis of extremely 'çlean' configuration. The chassis is narrow aluminium-honeycomb monocoque with pull-rod operated inboard front springs/dampers and outboard rear units mounted clear of the venturi. Conventional wings are fitted front and rear, the latter in carbon-fibre. Power unit is the turbocharged Ford-Cosworth DFX unit, giving approximately 700 b.h.p on alcohol fuel, and the transmission is a Hewland BG transaxle. Manufactured by Specialised Moudings in G.R.P and honeycomb composites, the bodywork has been fully wind- tunnel evaluated. The car is race ready.
