Description

Race ready car originally manufactured in 1983 around a new chassis with new old stock components from Chevron stores - the gearbox was supplied to Chevron originally in 1970.

History

Derek Bennett was the original Director of Chevron Race Cars, and following his death in 1979, the company was sold and moved to Scotland. In 1983, Lawrence Jacobson, the new Director of Chevron Race Cars, had his company build him a Chevron B16, which is this car. Derek Bennett was a superstitious man and did not use all chassis numbers in sequence. As a result the numbers 11, 18, and 22 were not used in the original B16 build sequence. Lawrence Jacobsen assigned this car number 18. This B16 was a new chassis and all the parts used to assemble the car were new “Factory” parts from his inventory.

This car was accepted by European Sanctioning Bodies. It’s history of racing includes 2 litre Class Supersports Series and was a Class winner, 1986 F1 support races at the Silverstone and Austrian Grand Prix, 1987 F1 support races at the Austrian and Hungarian Grand Prix where it was 1st overall, 1988 raced in Killarney, South Africa, Durban South Africa and Donington.

Roger Pitts of California bought the car from Lawrence Jacobson in 1990 and began a complete restoration. When this restoration was nearly complete, it was sold to Ed Swart of Rolling Hills, California where it was finished. Ed Swart was a Factory Chevron Driver and four times European Champion. Ed Swart sold the car to Robert Manschot of Arizona, who briefly raced the car on the West coast of California including the 1996 Monterey Historics. The current owner purchased the car in late 1996, and has continued racing it in California and Oregon. Frank D’Aquanno, owner of D’Motorsports in Monterey, California, has since maintained the car for and has done a excellent job of race preparation.
