It's not a myth, just one of 5 26R's in Australia and probably about 25 worldwide out of a production run of 95. This one was purchased by Peter Mould of Metco Racing who made it as second hand as the rest of us have. Repaired and sold to Doug Macarthur in 1967. Doug ran it in England several times, then brough tit back here to race quite successfully till 1969. Doug and the car are well known for its accident with Glyn Scott's 23 at the Farm. Everybody was there and saw it of course! Repaired and painted purple and later brown it was neutralized by John Trowell in Perth, who painted it white and ran it for a year. David Peile purchased it in late 1970 and ran it in Victoria with Ian Blake and Chris Roberts and raced extensively in 1974 and 1975 at 22 meetings in silver livery. Back to NSW in November, 1975 to Peter Hopwood for 7 years. He raced it extensively and with success in red then black after the rebuild from the towing accident on the way to Amaroo. Onto Paul Whitmarsh who fitted a lid and ran it from 1981 to 1984. I purchased it one silly Saturday in May, tidied it up and then after a thorough rebuild, ran it in blue. After another body repair, removed the lid and went back to red. In the last 3 years, it has been extensively repaired(another thorough rebuild) even bigger than any previous and I can't believe that I still have it 20 years on.
