Description

The "Humbug" 7 was developed by Barry Foley and Robin Hall from 1967-1971 and is one of the best known racing Sevens. It was restored in 1989 by an acknowledged Lotus 7 specialist and the MAE replaced with a 1500. Outfitted with every tweak possible it sports an all steel engine, untra-close ratio box, and Quaiffe. Extensively modified in period to conform to the Clubman class the car held over 20 lap records and won races outright against big bore sports cars. The car is painted as original save for a black stripe. The Chassis was enameled in the proper grey during the 1989 restoration. All suspension components were crack checked during the restoration and the car has accumulated only 15 races since the restoration.

History

Campaigned by Barry Foley and Robin Hall from 1967 thru 1971, the car ended up dominating the Clubmans class. With over twenty lap records to its credit it was surely the most competitive and developed Lotus 7 of the era. The car was extensively modified after a major shunt with help from a pre-March Robin Herd and this had much to do with it's racing success. The car faded into obscurity in the 70's, only to be rediscovered in the UK, restored in 1989, and since used to good effect in U.S. historics.

The early history of the car is detailed in a ten page handwritten document (with drawings) by Barry Foley. You can read each page by clicking on the numbers below. Use the browser "BACK" button to return here.
