Description:

Lotus 23 based special. Designed and built for 4 liter Olds V8 and Hewland HD5 transmission. First outing at Oregon SCCA race on August 21, 1965. Crashed in practice. Rebuilt and raced in SFR region SCCA CSR with 2 liter BMW until 1974. Original engine sold separately. Car with original engine and transmission reunited. Car runs but requires total restoration. Car is as last raced. Lots of spares including extra engines (supposedly from Mecom). Car has larger diameter and gage frame tubes than standard 23. Larger diameter rear axles. Car was supposedly built by MRD (Motor Racing Developements) for California Racing Partnership (Berkeley CA)in 1964. Frame built by Arch Motors but have not found any stampings. Frame has three coats of paint. Car comes with new frame built to original specifications (large tubes), extra wheels (magnesium), hub carriers, blocks, heads.

History

One off special built for the California Racing Partnership in 1964. Designed by MRD for Olds V8 and Hewland HD5 using Lotus 23 as a basis. Larger frame tubes, wider wheels, Lotus 23 body with flares. Raced once with V8 on August 21, 1965 at a SCCA club race in Oregon by owner/driver Bill Webb. Car hit rock off of track and crashed. Car was repaired and tested, but never raced by John Woodner in 1968. Car sold without engine in 1969 then fuel injected BMW installed (using Elva bellhousing)and car was raced in SF region SCCA club races by Gus Chofre and Bill Williams until 1974. Car has been stored since. Car now has original Olds V8 installed and running with original 2 BBL Rochester Carbs on Edelbrock manifold.Engine
