Description:
1969 Lotus 61 formula Ford. When I bought this car in 2001 it had been stored for 8 years. I completed a 1 year, 1,000 hour 'frame off' restoration. Every nut, bolt, screw, part, component and system was restored to "new" condition. I built a custom seat so yes; a 6' 250# driver will fit! Machine work, where required, was completed by Superior Machine, Sparks, NV. After stripping to bare metal every weld was tested and if required repaired to original condition. The frame was enamel painted to preclude cracking under powder coat paint. Suspension components and uprights were and have been magnufluxed annually. The only thing not "Monoposto legal" on this car are the alloy wheels. This "sin" is ignored in west coast vintage racing, if for no other reason than alloy wheels are monumentally stronger and safer than steel wheels. WHY am I selling this car? Before I'm too old and my only source of speed is "doubling the amperage" on my electric cart I plan on buying and racing a formula Atlantic car. Read on: this is one fantastic Lotus!
History
I am the 5'th owner of this car. The first two owners raced it in SCCA. The third owner is unknown. The 4'th owner raced it SCCA, VARA and VFCA from 1984 to 1993. I purchased the car in 2001 and after completing the restoration raced it with CSRG, HMSA and HSR-West. CSRG and HMSA do not compile finishing stats. With HSR-West the car, with a mid 50's, 250# driver finished as follows: 2002- Pacific FF series, 6'th place; Lotus Sports series, 2'nd place in the formula class. 2003- Pacific FF series, 6'th place; Lotus Sports series, 1'st place in the formula class. 2004- Pacific FF series, 4'th place; Lotus Sports series, 1'st place overall with five wins and one second in six starts.
Competition History
2003- HSR-West Lotus Sports Challenge formula class champion. 2004- HSR-West Lotus Sports Challenge overall champion.
