Description:
A wonderful race ready car with a very special and unique fully documented history. This car has the distinction of being the very last Formula Ford produced by MARCH Engineering LTD in Oxfordshire England. During the start of the 1972 production season, all Formula Ford production was sub contracted out to Wayne Mitchell of Mitchell Engineering in California as MARCH's success turned it's efforts to the higher Formula classes and since the bulk of the company's FF demand came from the US market. The first owner, Niles Sanborn negotiated with Joe Grimaldi, then US MARCH importer, for a UK made FF in 1971. Grimaldi contacted Bill Stone, then production manager for MARCH and later who was Adrian Reynard's Partner, to construct a FF made at the MARCH development shop in the UK. Stone recruited Bill Scotty from MARCH's F-2 program to engineer and build the car. The decision was to have Arch Motors build a frame utilizing MARCH's highly successful F-3 spaceframe design, thus giving the chassis the unique frame number AM72-3 with no other numbers. The car was outfitted with all the FF mechanicals, a F-3 body, and the F-3 side intrusion pods which exceeded FF rules. Stone and Niles tested the car at Silverstone before importing to the US. Niles first US race was in May of 1972 at Cumberland accoring to the vehicle SCCA log book. The car changed hands several times and was fully restored by Lee Chapman of Ct several years ago. Raced modestly by Jeff Johnson and then Scott Livingston since then, the car has not suffered any shunts or mishaps. Currently, the car has a fresh MWE 1600 uprated engine with zero miles, a new seat insert, , new windshield, new ITG filter. all alloy radiator, is race ready, and includes the rear engine cover which is often missing from most of the US made 729's. The car comes with log books from day one, correspondence with MARCH and Joe Grimaldi, Factory set up sheets, personal notes from previous owners, and other neat historical documents. I'm pricing the car for a quick sale. I have 18 other cars and will be running the vintage S2 group this year. Interesting trades are always welcome.
