Description:
This perfectly restored McLaren Formula A car has had only 5 owners since new and has a continuous
and documented history. Sales invoices from all three prior owners are available. The car was purchased
new from McLaren/Trojan in 1969 by well-known Canadian privateer, Roger McCaig. He campaigned the car
in 1969 and 1970. His original setup notes for the car accompany it. It then went to the Minneapolis,
Minnesota area in 1972 to a private owner. It was donated to a French Canadian auto museum in 1977 where
it remained until it was purchased by the restorer in 1984. The restored car was sold to the previous
owner in 1993. He raced once in 1993 and has been on display since. The car was acquired by the
current owner last year and he has not had the opportunity to race it and now does not anticipate having
the time in the near future, hence it is reluctantly again offered for sale.
History
McLaren was one of the few major manufacturers to produce a Formula A/5000 chassis when the class
was introduced to Europe in 1969. McLaren's small design team based their design on the M7A Formula 1
chassis, adding rear horns to the basic tub to accept a race-tuned Chevy V8 small-block. The M10A was
a more sophisticated car than it's main rival, the Lola T140, which was a simple spaceframe compared to
the full-monocoque McLaren. Most of production went to North America, with a single car allocated to
Peter Gethin in the British series, which he won after a season-long nail-biter.
