Description:
Derby was a small French automobile manufacturer from 1921 to 1936. Derby's were initially powered by an American V-twin motorcycle engine but that was soon replaced by a series of 4-cylinder and then 6-cylinder engines. The initial Derby cars were typical French "voiturettes," and the line evolved into touring cars, but the reputation of Derby was built around its sports cars. The Derby was marketed in England by Vernon Balls and was badged there as "Vernon Derby." Mr. Balls was active early on racing Amilcars. This car is fitted with a 7 horsepower Ruby engine which was popular in 1927 and was used in other cars such as BNC, etc. The current owner purchased it about 20 years ago and actively races it in pre-war classes in various vintage groups around the country.
