This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.
Description:
According to the French Matra d'Jet club, there were 355 Matra d'Jet 5S cars built of which approximately 130 are known today. This car, one of the last 5S models built, was raced by Jim Hanna in the 1990s. Jim's father also raced dJets in the 60s - as did Janet Guthrie. A d'Jet raced this year at Monterey so it should be welcome at any vintage event. This very car also was featured in an article in Autoweek. A copy of that article is included with the car. I purchased this verhicle to do a show quality restoration. The full tube chassis first was sandblasted and all rusted areas repaired or replaced. It is in 'as new' condition. The body, which had suffered numerous cracks over the years, was stripped of soundproofing and carefully restored to as new condition. All non-original holes were filled (on both sides) and all cracks repaired. The roll bar was removed (and would need to be replaced if the car is used to race). The body is in excellent condition. The engine was dissassembled and first hot tanked. It is the original 804 Gordini 1105 cc. engine. All cylinder sleeves were replaced as well as rings, forged pistons, rod bearings, and seals with new parts from MecaParts in France. A high capacity water pump was sourced from Columbo in France. Crank shaft polished. New valve guides installed and valves and springs replaced as required. The car includes two original ducellier distributors - one electronic and the other with original points (when required by race sanctioning body). New heavy duty push rods were made for the car. The engine includes the correct and rare Matrasports cast aluminum sump as well as an R8 steel sump for racing if desired. The car also includes two new clutch disks from MecaParts. The car uses twin 40 DCOE weber carburetors. I also am including a brand new set of correct headers and full NOS exhaust system - both purchased from MecaParts. The engine is completed with zero time on it. Other new and spare parts include door glass, tail light lenses and housings, correct Jaeger gauges, new windshield (sourced by Matra from Alfa Romeo Sprint Speciale) as well as new windshield and rear plexiglass rubber mouldings. The front suspension and steering has been heim-jointed for improved response. It would require very little to make this car street legal although, as an antique, it is sold with a bill of sale only. Unfortunately I do not have log books for the car. The car requires assembly although I expect to have engine and transmission mounted by the end of the week and will continue with assembly until sold.
