Description:

***ADDED MANY NEW PICTURES HERE*** (www.taylormadeclassiccars.com/titanslides.html) 1969 Titan Mark V Formula Ford race car recently obtained after long term dry indoor storage. Three (3) owner history. Ford Cortina 1600 crossflow engine, twin Weber carbs, 4 into 1 headers, Hewland Mk 8 4- speed gearbox, 2nd extra body setS (nose cone & engine cover), 2nd set of alloy wheels, 3rd set of steel wheels, last raced Pacific Northwest in the 1980's. Original green leather steering wheel, some spare parts, blue Bosch ignition coil, roto-flex couplings in-board, tubular frame for coolant and oil transfer to front coolers, no damages, certainly NOT race-ready, no fire suppression, very original condition, minimal modifications, easily returned to original specifications, perfect for vintage racing, Formula Ford, or autocross. Engine turns over freely. I have not attempted to start it and do not know its condition. I have paperwork, records and receipts on the service history from early 1980's when it was last raced. Had a rebuild of sorts involving block boring and crank turning, new "American Hammered" rings, replace oil pump, dry sump pan, tach drive, pump & pulleys, and all gaskets. Shows standard Cortina pressure plate rebuild & clutch disc. Has twin Weber 40 DCOE's. Weight at all four wheels for total 889 pounds (42% front, 58% rear). Shows Hewland Mk8 gearbox with data on two sets of gears (one for autocross & hillclimbs, one for highspeed roadracing). Has gear ratio testing readouts. Has checklist & lapchart data from 2nd owner Jim Norlin of Norlin Engineering out of Milwaukie, Oregon dated May 3, 1981 with prior driver Brad Miller. Other names associated with work or technical advice on this car are: "Gary Van Horn", "Amber Nelson", "Bob Erickson", "Greg Lapinski", "Arnie Loyning", "Rich Derry", and "Pierre Phillips". I have other receipts and a manilla envelope that goes with the car. 1st owner: Don Crawford of Molalla, OR (SCCA logbook issued 1971) 2nd owner: Jim Norlin of Milwaukie, OR (SCCA logbook issued 1979) 3rd owner: Carl DeMott of Midland, OR I bought it from Carl DeMott's estate. Carl unsuccessfully raced it autocross in the early 1980's and gave it up since he was not very good at it. The car was placed up on a wooden rack in his garage mid 1980's and sat there for 30 years until I just obtained it from his widow. Asking $21,500 or serious offer.

History

Charles Lucas created the Titan Racing Company in 1965. Lucas was a familiar figure in the sport of racing, as he had success in Formula 3 as both a driver and team owner. When Lucas began creating Formula Fords, he used the designs of his MK3 F3 car as a starting point. The front featured a cigar-shaped sloping nose similar to the design found on the Lotus 41. There were around 12 examples of the Mk4 Formula Ford created in 1968. These cars featured a wide track and a low frontal area which gave them excellent handling and performance. For 1969, the Mk5 was introduced which brought several changes, the most significant being a revised rear bulkhead which could now accomodate a Hewland Mk8 gearbox. In total, 15 examples of the Mk5 were created with all being sent to the United States. In 1970, the Mk6 was introduced. In comparison to the prior cars, little had changed. The most visual difference was in the front, the sloping nose was replaced by a traditional flatter nose which helped generate downforce. The chassis was very similar to prior cars, with changes being rather minor. Weight was reduced by using thinner tubes and smaller rods.
