1981 Porsche 924 GTS Club Sport - SOLD
This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.
Description:
This is a very limited edition Porsche. Only 55 924 GTS were built and sold in 1981, as the production homologation model for the 924 GTR. Of the 55, 15 were the "Club Sport" version, which included higher boost/hp (270 vs. 245), factory roll cage and cut-off switches, and removal of some bumper weights, reducing the curb weight to 2320 lbs. This car was originally the factory press car, then the personal transport for Norber Singer, then imported by Bruce Leven (Bayside Disposal) in 1982, then sold to a man in Texas who titled it in Texas and drove it on the street, then sold it in the late 80's to a man in Mass. who used it for Driver's Ed events, and then, when PCA Club Racing began in 1992, started racing the car in 1993. Current owner acquired the car in 1997, for PCA Club Racing and vintage racing. The current odometer reading is 58,522km. The last race was September 2007. The car is essentially in stock, original condition. The only modifications are: A removeable side bar on the cage, driver's side; replacement of front suspension bushings, and revalving of the shocks. The on-board fire system uses the original fire-extinguisher mount behind the passenger seat. The mechanical condition of the car is ready to race, and the cosmetic condition is, as per the pictures, excellent. The engine was rebuilt in 1998, and has approx. 35 hours on it. The engine is stock, except that original pistons could not be found, so J&E pistons were made to replicate the shape and compression ration of original. The engine also does use the fixed lifter buckets of the GTS, but rather uses the standard, adjustable buckets from a 924 Turbo. The clutch was replaced 4 hours ago, and the gearbox was disassembled and inspected at the same time. The turbocharger was rebuilt in 1998 as well, and bearings will be OK for another 30 hours or so. The car is offered complete and ready to race. All paperwork back to its orginal factory papers is complete, the original glove box manual is included, as is a copy of the factory parts manual, all maintenance records, etc. An owner might find a way to take the Texas title, and provide the necessary work to make it street legal. Regarding the latter, the car has all original lights, horn, etc. The heating system has been disconnected, but would be straightforward to re-connect. The car is currently eligible for PCA Club Racing Class J (formerly Class C), and at 270hp and 2320 lbs, it is an interesting and enjoyable package to drive and race. The factory gearbox and ratios (the car has the so-called Snail transmission) are original, and are typical of factory turbo street geaars. The handling is superb, being mostly the GTR suspension, and brakes are superb (they are the 917 calipers, which are equivalent to the 930 brakes of that era). Seats are the original 935 units, with updated belts and rear seat brace. Car will be sold with 3 sets of wheels: one is 8X16 Fuchs with Hoosiers (245/45-14), one is 8X16 and 9X16 Fuchs with same Hoosiers, and one is set of BBS replicas with street rubber. Several boxes of spares and replaced parts will be provided, including a spare cylinder head, fuel pumps, warm-up regulators, original seat belts, etc.
