Description:

Except for the recently developed Shelby Series 1, this is the only car constructed from a blank sheet of paper by Carroll Shelby and his design team. The chassis was designed by Alan Burke and David Bruns (Swift Engineering), original body work was from the legendary Peter Brock, transmission came from the CAN-AM and Indy Car Gearbox shop of Pete and Chris Weismann. John Fernandez, currently with the Chrysler/Dodge racing program, oversaw the design and testing program from 1989 until approx 1993. The book FAST DAYS, by Joel Jackson, explains in detail the stroy about the lessor known racing accomplishments of the Shelby team in conjunction with Lee Iacocca and Chrysler Corporation. Chassis #012 is one of the 74 production chassis constructed from 1990 to 1993. Records indicate the car was originally purchased from Shelby Technologies/SCCA Enterprises in 1990 and was NOT involved in the formal professional series and therefore the frame and aluminum panels are in exceptional condition with many still having the original Shelby Technologies stickers attached. The chassis records include an original Shelby CAN-AM logbook, assembly manual, service bulletins, and a transmission overhaul/repair manual. Seller will also provide these manuals in CD/digital form. The finish is brilliant red and is not without a few cosmetic racing flaws, but is still suitable as a collector car or as a Shelby museum piece. A spare set of original wheels plus other miscellaneous items will be transferred with the car. Shelby CAN-AM race cars can be found at verious race tracks around the USA and the World. Most recently, a sister ship to this chassis took overall honors at the HSR Walter Mitty challenge at Road Atlanta....another at the PBI Raceway in addition to another at a Laguna Seca Raceway historic event. This Shelby CAN-AM, like most racing machines, is sold on a bill of sale and has not title or formal registration. It is intended to be operated only by qualified and properly trained drivers. The seller certifies the engine is ZERO TIME since major overhaul in March, 2013 (receipts included) and the drive line is in good operating condition. A NEW ATL fuel cell was installed in December, 2012.

History

According to the original logbook the car has only four regional races entered. The car was stored for 19 years before being brought back into competition condition.
