Moreso than any other modern manufacturer, Ferrari has taken a unique approach in bringing their clients further into their family by shepherding them on the transition from road to track, and the Ferrari Challenge program has been a key part of this process. Created by Ferrari in 1993, starting with the 348 Challenge, this single-marque series initially saw competition in Europe but has now expanded to four official series in Europe, North America, Japan, and the United Kingdom. What better way was there for an enthusiastic Ferrari owner to go racing, all with factory-backed support?
By the time that the 360 Challenge was introduced in 2000, the Ferrari Challenge program was hitting its stride and growing in leaps and bounds. However, unlike previous Challenge cars, the 360 could not be built up by a dealer with an upgrade package; all 360 Challenges were purpose-built by the factory from new, taking things one step further for both Ferrari and its clients.
Delivered in 2004, chassis number 136235 was the ninth-to-last 360 Challenge built by Ferrari. It made its debut in the Ferrari Challenge Series at Spa during the same year. From 2006-2011, the car was campaigned regularly in the Danish and Swedish editions of the series and was driven to podium finishes on three occasions.
In its current custodianship, the car was wrapped in blue and white during the summer of 2022 and has continued to be campaigned on track days throughout continental Europe. This includes the Ferrari Challenge & GT Days at the Red Bull Ring in Austria in both 2022 and 2023. The car competed in two events within the Cavallino Classic Cup, first at the Red Bull Ring in June of 2022, where it finished 3rd Overall and 1st in Class, then later that year in the Cavallino Classic Cup at Misano in October 2022, finishing 1st in Class and 2nd Overall. Following these outings, the car has been driven just under 7,420 km from new.
To support its recent running, the 360 Challenge has been serviced and looked after accordingly to keep it running at the front of the pack. Over €20,000 was spent in July of 2023 in servicing the car with the Ferrari specialists at Toni Auto in Maranello, including a belt service, replacing the rear brake discs, a full fluid flush, and reupholstering the driver’s seat in correct Sabelt fabric. In April of this year, four new Pirelli racing slicks were fitted. The car has recently been granted Ferrari Classiche certification, confirming that it is still fitted with its original engine and gearbox. Additionally, a package of spare parts can be acquired by the purchase via separate negotiation. Please contact a member of the RM Sotheby’s Private Sales team for further details.
Nearly twenty years after its retirement from the Ferrari Challenge program, 360 Challenges still remain highly desirable for track-day use and represent serious value for money. Stripped down to the bare essentials, a 360 Challenge is far faster than its road-going siblings, over half a second faster to 100 km/h from a standstill than a 360 Modena F1. Thus, this would be an excellent acquisition for someone looking for the track-day thrills that only a Ferrari can provide.
