Description:

1967 Ferrari 412P Berlinetta Tribute

Classic Showcase is excited to present this rare and extraordinary 1967 Ferrari 412P Berlinetta Tribute, serial number 9866. As a testament to our commitment to offering only the finest examples of automotive artistry, this one-of-a-kind Sports Racing Prototype is certainly a highlight of our collection! With its impeccable craftsmanship, attention to detail, and detailed ten-year build process, this stunning Ferrari Tribute provides a rare opportunity for the serious collector looking for something truly special. Its extensive show history at prestigious events including The Quail Motorsports Gathering, Concorso Italiano, and Motorlux underscores its significance in the world of classic and performance automobiles. It has also been prominently featured on Cars.TV, VeloceToday.com, Wheel Hub Magazine, and extensively shared across social media platforms.

Known affectionately as “Rossa” by its creator, John Nino, this custom-built 412P pays homage to the original factory 412P (serial number 0848), which has been under the care of a Swiss/Italian collector for over 30 years. This tribute can be enjoyed both as a sleek Berlinetta or transformed into an open-cockpit Spyder by removing its expertly crafted Targa roof section. The project was brought to life with the assistance of Ferrari privateer and racing legend David Piper, who supplied fiberglass body panels, including the nose, tail, and doors, cast from 412P chassis #0854 as templates for the bespoke aluminum body. Piper also provided essential components such as the P4 windscreen, Perspex headlight covers, side latches, vintage aluminum grille mesh, and flame-retardant interior fabric, along with many other original parts from his collection. Over the course of the project, Piper generously shared his expertise with Mr. Nino to ensure absolute accuracy, eventually meeting up with the car in Monterey, where he praised it as “the best of both worlds”—blending faithful aesthetics with modern performance. Piper also autographed the car, remarking that it may be the only vehicle he’s ever signed.

The reverse-engineered chassis was 3D-modeled by Red Car Restorations in Rockwall, Texas, and built by Jake Hodges at Race Crafters in Camarillo, California. Crafted entirely from 4130 Chromoly steel, the chassis incorporates stainless-steel water tubes inspired by the original 412P and P4 designs. The car's wheels were precision-engineered from 3D scans of original Campagnolos by Chris Wakim and Reed Lamb at Race Concepts in Simi Valley, California, and are designed to accommodate 42mm spline-drive hubs from a Ferrari 512 BB/LM. The rear uprights are accurately cast replicas fitted with period-correct Ferrari hardware and P3-style knock-offs. The suspension and steering systems combine original Ferrari components with precise recreations, including a custom electro-hydraulic lift system to facilitate easy transport over speed bumps and onto trailers.

The stunning coach-built aluminum bodywork was expertly crafted by Aaron Chovanetz and Blake Clevenger of MC Auto Creations in Ferris, Texas, while the period-correct see-through plexi engine cover was sourced from Torino, Italy, courtesy of Matt Jones at ReOriginals in Goodrich, Texas. The nose and inner panels were hand-formed by Brian Stone at Stones Metal Shop in Gardena, California, while the chassis and suspension components were expertly finished by Greg Thurmond of GTS Customs in Simi Valley, California. Authentic vintage and NOS lighting components from Marchal, Carello, and Altissimo complete the exterior, while the interior evokes the 1967 Monza racing circuit with a combination of NOS switches, gauges, ducting, and a gated manual shifter, complemented by Scuderia Ferrari fabric and "mouse hair" dashboard material sourced from ReOriginals.

While original 412P engines are no longer available, this Tribute is powered by a modern Tipo F133 V12 from a 550 Maranello, built and tuned by Tim Taylor and Joe Maher of Red Car Restorations. Enhanced with a MoTec engine management system and Competition Bosch fuel injectors, the engine produces an impressive 513.33 hp at the rear wheels and 407.23 lb-ft of torque, equating to 590.33 hp at the flywheel. Power is delivered through a re-engineered Porsche G50 transaxle, mated to the Ferrari V12 via a custom bell housing and flywheel. Custom-built stainless steel fuel tanks, dry sump, and water expansion tanks provide both authenticity and competition-grade performance. A set of 12" vented rotors with Girling race calipers ensures exceptional braking. Weighing in at just 1,895 lbs (860 kg), this car is a formidable performer—a fitting tribute given that John Nino began his career at Rocketdyne, testing Space Shuttle engines. Though several shops have built replicas of Ferrari’s P/3, P/4, and 412P models, none match the craftsmanship, dedication, and precision evident in 412P Tribute s/n 9866. With hundreds of photos documenting every aspect of its construction, this stunning hand-formed creation was a natural choice for the “Custom Coachwork” class at The Quail in 2022.

This 1967 Ferrari 412P Berlinetta Tribute stands as a masterful blend of precision, passion, and performance. With its exquisite craftsmanship, faithful homage to Ferrari's legendary racing heritage, and modern enhancements, it stands as a truly unique opportunity for the discerning collector. Classic Showcase is proud to offer such an extraordinary vehicle, and we invite you to experience the unparalleled beauty and power of this one-of-a-kind automotive masterpiece!
