History

This Corvette started life as a 427 390hp Daytona Yellow Coupe, Black interior and 4 speed manual transmission. It was purchased from a Chevrolet Dealership 10 miles from Baldwin Motion N.Y. (GM Store number 001 for Corvettes in 1968.) According to the original owner, the car was taken to Baldwin Motion for Modifications with only a few miles on it (Baldwin Motion could not always get cars from GM and did source them from other dealerships). Technically this car is not a "Baldwin Motion" car as, according to Baldwin Motion, it was probably brought to Baldwin by it's owner when new and not delivered to Baldwin directly from GM for modification. In the 80's Ithe car was fou of nd in N.J. where it had been sitting inside for quite a few years. The odometer read around 40,000 miles. At that point a 454 was fitted and it was driven for a few years. The owner moved to San Diego and left the car sitting back East for a while before he brought the car to California. It was then sent to "Guldstrand Motorsports" in Burbank for a total rebuild. Starting with a fully welded and gusseted frame as per the official GM Performance Manual, the accident free body received a proper restoration and paint while on a frame dolly. Dick Guldstrand, and his team of Corvette experts installed the following: GM ZL-1 Limited Edition Fuel Injected Engine (#194 of 200 engines), Suspension, Steering, Brakes, Flywheel, Clutch, Pressure Plate, Fresh 3:55 Posi. Clutches, Power Rack and Pinion using only GM Parts, Hi Performance Hydraulic Pump, 4 Point Rollbar, (welded to the frame), Ultra Rare 200 MPH Speedo, Fuel Injection, One of a kind ) custom black Carbon Fiber L-88 intake base, custom Stainless Steel thermally coated headers, and custom wheels. Dick G. and the previous owner had discussed doing a series of these cars based on the Garner A.I.R Corvettes that Dick Raced in the 60's. Original Guldstrand prepared /A.I.R. cars have sold for over $600,000. The idea behind this Corvette was to offer all the looks and power of the original cars but with better drive-ability, engine life and a MUCH lower purchase price. The paint is excellent with only minor tiny chips or imperfections. Absolutely only a few. Definitely show quality but can be driven and enjoyed. The interior is 90% original and very nice. The car was recently dynoed in 2011 at 413 wheel horsepower at 5200 rpm and 731 Nm at 3600 rpm. The actual owner brought it to Europe in 2011. It was show in different events (on the famous Monthléry and Magny-Cours racetracks). It recently benefitted from a lower end rebuild by the famous american V8 specialist Michel Mockryki. A new baffled racing oil pan was added to eliminate lubrication issues, and provision for an accusump accumulator has been made (A dry sump wouldn't be period correct and would hav imposed heavy chassis modification. The accusump goes with the car and is ready to be installed with minor efforts). The conservating preparation gives a tad over 500 HP. The car has a French registration.Engine
