Description:
The roots of English dominance in formula car design and manufacture can be traced to the
500cc Motor Club and the rebirth of post-war motor racing. The mid-engined Coopers
were dominant in the formula and this example carries on the tradition. The object of a complete
restoration over 5 years which was completed in 1995 the car has distinguished itself since.
In the course of the restoration it was completely stripped down, the chassis beadblasted,
welded, and stove enamelled. New 18G alloy bodywork and tanks were made and a rollover bar built in.
New wishbones were made and the springs reset and treated with chemi-black and new adjustable gas shocks
fitted. The original wheels were fitted with new Dunlop racing tyres in 1995. The engine is an ex
long track JAP. The gearbox is AMC-Norton with Commando ratios. The car has been successfully raced
since restoration. It can be seen on the front row at Mallory on page 15 of the September 96 edition
of Classic and Sportscar, car number 10.
