Description:
Very complete project, including tub restored by Hammer Art Inc. and Goodwin Restorations in Indianapolis. Tub got new sides, bottom, and cutouts have been made to acommodate a tall Driver. All suspension parts, sway bars, steering rack, pedals, wheels, original oil tank, header tank and many more parts are present. All four upright/axle/brake assemblies have been restored by Goodwin and are like new. All has been test fitted by Goodwin Restorations. Also includes correct Ford Quad Cam, overhauled, set up for gas, dynoed and checked by Goodwin Restorations, including original "Bundle of Snakes" headers, correct bellhousing and new clutch assembly. Further includes correct and original LG500, overhauled by Goodwin as well. Original glass fibre nose cockpit fairing and windscreen in excellent condition. Furthermore, there is a complete documentation with history/provenance, and period b&w and colour photos from the Indianapolis Museum Archives, original Ford manual for the engine, and transaxle details. Note: There are no fuel cells, because in a later version this car had different cells anyway, so new ones have to be made and an apropriate fuel system for the Quad Cam has to be made. And, there are only three correct brake discs. I recommend to use new discs anyway. Also, the period photos show a small engine cover, a fibre glass part, which is missing. Qualified buyers can review the car and all parts 10 minutes from Zurich Airport, Switzerland. Sale is ex location/workshop, the buyer has to arrange crating and shipping if necessary.
History
One of two red Lolas brought to the Indy Races in 1968 (the nr. 5 car), with RWD and aspirated Quad Cam. The other car was a 4-WD, Turbo Ford Quad Cam, nr.24. Carl Williams was supposed to drive nr. 5 in the race, but his team mate Al Unser sr. crashed it in training before the race. Al then qualified and raced the nr. 24 car. Nr. 5 was sent back to England for repair, came back to the US and was again raced by Unser and later by George Eaton. 1973 at Indy was its last appearance with Jim Hurtubise as the nr. 56 Miller Special with side pods and chisel nose.
