Description:
Factory entered GT race car at the 1978 24hrs. of Daytona and the 12 hrs. of Sebring.
History
Commissioned by British Leyland to be built to compete at the 1978 24 hours of Daytona and built in part
by NASCAR's Smokey Yunick, this car completed the 24 hrs. on it's first attempt and was the last MG to have
raced at the 24hrs of Daytona. From Daytona the factory supported the efforts at the 12 hours of Sebring.
Having competed at the Sebring 12hr. during the two previous years the factory sponsored MG once again
completed the 12hr. race.
The MG was sold from its original owner, Charles Kleischmidt to Jim Downing of IMSA fame after
having beat on numerous occasions then E/Production National Champion Robert Overby in SCCA.
The MG was several time Chimney Rock Hill Climb Champion and competed in numerous SCCA events through 1996
when it was restored to it's Daytona livery for Vintage Sports Car Racing where it has a win at Road Atlanta
in it's only outing since restoration.
Competition History
Road Atlanta has been the only outing since restoration, which also produced a win.
