Description:
1964 Halibrand Shrike Indycar (#2) Between 10 and 12 of these cars were built by Halibrand in 1964-65. Lloyd Ruby won the 1964 Phoenix Indycar race in one of them. Eddie Sachs got killed in one at Indianapolis. They were the only whole cars ever produced by Halibrand, innovative, quite advanced for the time, and were magnesium bulkheads with stressed aluminum skins, midengine, usually Ford 4 cam racing engines. Halibrand built beautiful 2 speed transaxles for these cars with a quick change differential. This car was sold to us as the actual Phoenix winning car (Ruby Car) It has alloy coachwork with "RedBall Express" logos on it, and that was Ruby's sponsor at that time, but there are no vin numbers on the chassis of any of these cars, only casting numbers, so your guess is as good as ours. We actually talked to Lloyd Ruby, but he couldn't remember any distinguishing features. Halibrand is still in business, but no help there either. No records survive from that era. This car is in a shipping crate and will need the suspension bolted on and the other addon parts added on. It has two different sets of suspension, one for roadracing, which centers the car, and one for Indy oval racing which offsets the car. Along with car number 1 also on this page, a prospective buyer would own about 25% of the cars known to exist.Price: $52,500 for both cars and a truck full of spare parts, including enough bulkheads to build a third car, side pods, springs, fuel bladders etc, etc.
