One of the most extensive modifications was a special lightweight bodyshell, which significantly reduced the overall weight of the vehicle and increasied its width for widee wheels and tyres. It was also fitted with a rollcage. Mechanically it differs from the standard car in lots of ways. Whilst perfectly drivable on the road this car is more at home on the track, numerous magazine articles have been dedicated to the car and will be supplied with the vehicle some estimate the BHP of the car in excess of 300BHP.
History
Originally supplied from Jonathan Bradbury to Reg Philips, the car was immediately prepared for the 1980 Hillclimb season by Robin Rew of Rooster Turbo's at Silverstone. He installed a single turbo and significantly modified the car which went on to win firsts at Shelsey and Prescott. The car also went back to the AC factory at Thames Ditton to have a special one off lightweight shell fitted. Eventually the car passed to Robin Rew who continued to develop and race it. Twin IHI turbos were fitted and water methanol injection! it had an estimated BHP of in excess of 300BHP and returned a time of 32.45 at Shelsey in 86 which at the time was quicker than any Cobra at the time! The next owner Dave Womack returned the car to road legal spec and converted the car for eligibility in the Intermarque and BDC series. Since then its been used in a few sprints and hillclimbs. I became the new owner in 2003. The water methanol had long since disappeared and the boost has been reduced but it is still a very quick car. I have continued to upgrade the car stronger engine mounts, modified gear linkage, period racing seats. The car has been the subject of magazine articles over the years these will be included in the sale as they chart its history etc.Performance Data
