Description:

Datsun 2000 Roadster race car. These are rare to find in vintage racing, and this one is believed to be one of a very few surviving factory lightweight cars. Besides the rare parts, being in the right place at the right time, the key is the car is calculated to be nearly 220 pounds light with all steel bodywork. History is difficult to find on the lightweights as the factory did not want to admit they made any as it was viewed as cheating by the Japanese, although it was a poorly kept secret. A lightweight won the 1969 National Championship with Jack Scoville driving beating the heavily favored BRE cars. The car has been lightly restored with a sensitivity to protecting the history, meaning there are lots of little dings and waves in the bodywork from the thin metal. Car was a race car from new in Southern California with original owner working with Nissan comp. The car came to Northern California in 1971 and has ownership tracking to 1971. Car was raced and won in regional events, ran enduro's, then was stored for twenty eight years. Car was reassembled with Datsun Z L6 engine as a recreation of the factory Fairlady S and has been running in vintage races for last couple of years with multiple wins in small and big bore. The L6 engine was installed as a bolt in and the car can be run as is, sold as a roller, or a 2000 engine re installed. Full restoration negotiable depending on buyers wants and needs. Car is currently 36 pounds under weight with calculated 100 pounds of extra cage past the roll hoop, and the six cylinder engine. Feel free to research out Jaguar lightweights, Shelby R models, etc and see how many of those rare cars were made vs. Datsun 2000 Roadster race cars to get a feel of what a find this is. All the current parts were track tested and developed to get the best lap times. Do your homework and feel free to ask questions, but I am not planning on publishing all the rare unique features to protect from Air cars evolving.
