Description:

Original Trans-Am Series Race Car, 1970 Chevrolet Camaro, Brass tag 72AS43, driver: Dick Hoffman, Milford, MI. Over the winter of 1971-72 GM engineers, Dick Hoffman and Dave Horchler, H&H Racing prepared this 1970 Camaro for competition in the SCCA’s Trans-Am series and A-Sedan categories. Being well connected through their jobs at GM this car was constructed to specifications used on the successful Penske-Donohue cars. Over the years Hoffman’s original “ Engineering Project Data Books “ have been passed on, extensively documenting its creation and modification through the late 70’s This Camaro was noted for being painted bright yellow with very progressive black and red graphics and large numbers. The number 48 was chosen for being the fourth and eighth letters in the alphabet as is their shared initials. Ownership chain: John Rand purchased the car from Hoffman and sold it to Jim Gillhoed; Neil Karolek bought it and sold it to Paul Lane who brokered the car to Vintage Racing Services / Jack Crowell / Richard Raintree in 2000. VRS restored the car to period specifications and it was run at the 2002 Monterey Historics and then modified for East Coast Historic competition. In 2008, Lance Smith of Huntington Cars completed a restoration to 1972 specifications and livery. The Camaro is very original with its 302 ci. Iron engine and Borg-Warner Super T-10 transmission.
