This is a great example of a limited-production, well-engineered Formula Vee car from the golden age of sports car road racing. These cars, eponymously-named “Rongineers”, were designed, constructed, and raced (in the SW United States and to some good effect) by a mechanical engineer living in California named Ron Jones. We were able to contact Mr. Jones a while back and he was kind enough to give us a good set of plan drawings of this machine, which we have on disc (of course a copy of that disc come along with the car). Jones really engineered and built the square tube space frame well and his very “aero” full-coverage bodywork design will never be taken for another vintage Vee on the race course! The car is NOT a runner (yet) but (almost) everything is there to get this one on the Vintage trail in (fairly) short order for the right person or race shop. This is really a perfect machine for an existing FVee driver to help a buddy or a son or daughter get started in the all the fun. We’re pretty certain that this chassis was never raced (we know that this coachwork was never fitted). More than likely this is one of the 2 or 3 unfinished “kits” that Jones sold. It is totally authentic to the era. Among the ancillary items that come along with this one is a “brand new” set of 4.5-inch VW wheels (nice satin black powder coat/never fitted with tires), a set of Girling master cylinders (with 3 unopened rebuild kits) an “extra” fiberglass seat, and a front beam axle that’s (partially) converted (the upper torsion bar pack has been replaced with a 5/8” steel bar). The car is available as-described above for $1250 FOB Duarte, California and a “new” (just rebuilt) W&R transaxle is available for only $375 more. We feel that the above prices are fair … they were set where they are to move the machine quickly as well as to get it into the hands of someone who can really have some great, safe, Vintage Vee racing fun.
