1964 BRP Formula 1 Reproduction - SOLD
This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.
Description:
This is a reproduction of the privateer team BRP Formula 1 chassis, which was a Lotus 25 clone
built for the 1.5 litre Formula 1. This car is outfitted with a non-original
Ford non-crossflow and early Hewland Mark box. It is an exact and authentic reproduction as the builder
had previously restored one of the original BRP cars with the assistance of original designer and
team mechaninc Tony Robinson. While some original BRP parts were used in the
construction of the car and other original but unusable parts accompany the car, it is almost entirely
of new construction and does not claim the provenance of any original BRP car. It is configured as was
BRP 3/64 in the last days of it's life when used as a crash car in the film "Gran Prix". BRP 3/64
is known to have been scrapped at that time.
History
The BRP (British Racing Partnership) concern was formed as a team to run cars for Stirling Moss by his
father, Alfred Moss, agent Ken Gregory, and Tony Robinson, designer and chief mechanic. Stirling Moss
was often not able to accept offers for team drives because of personal sponsorship conflicts, hence
the need for a privateer team. Initially using other constructor's cars BRP
produced their own car for 1963 and 1964, "designed" by Tony Robinson, it was a Lotus 25 copy with
thicker tub skins. The team almost certainly used the corner parts from their now-retired UDT-Laystall
Lotus 24s. Depending upon your source, BRP had varying degrees of unofficial cooperation from
Lotus ranging from drawings to quality private time with a works car. The cars were outfitted with
BRM V8s and Colotti-Francis 5 and 6 speeds and driven by Innes Ireland and Trevor Taylor.
Competition History
The car has been running successfully in
New Zealand for several years, accumulating nearly 30 starts with no DNFs and 21 class wins.
