Description:

1968 Porsche 911'L' Trans-Am Series under-two-litre class runner-up car, driven by Bob Bailey. This is a total project car needing complete restoration, having been raced and continually modified since then until ending up in a barn where I rescued it in 1999. It does not have the original tranny or engine and is therefore sold as a roller shell. This car was originally burgundy in colour with a gold stripe, equipped with Minilites, rollbar, and other competition equipment, as described in the factory confirmation for this vehicle.


History

This is one of the 'L' model Porsche 911's, used for Trans-Am competition because they qualified as a sedan, due to a different rear seat arrangement. According to the Porsche factory 'Confirmation', this car was delivered to Porsche America, Teanock. Bob Bailey was the car's first owner, as he took it to a 5th place overall, 2nd place in the under 2 litre class in the 1968 Trans-Am Series. Further history is shady at this time, although all known owners are still alive to answer questions about the car. The second owner of the car was Harry Bytzek, a well-known racer and collector in the Toronto area, followed by Ken Adolf, also of Toronto at the time. It was Adolf who is largely responsible for the modifications on the car and who campaigned the car in the so-called Firehawk Series in Canada. The subsequent ownership is unknown to the seller, although the car was purchased out of a barn in Ottawa in 1999 where it had ended up in a mix-up of divorce and business gone bad in the hands of a barrister by the name of Ron Fainstein. The car has been in storage since being purchased and disassembled by the seller. The car comes with extensive documentation aside from the factory Confirmation, including photographs, newspaper articles and affidavits by previous owners.
