Description:
1966 Shelby GT-350 VIN #SFM6S286 was purchased from Kevin Bruce in Durango, CO in October 2011. Mr. Bruce had purchased the car in December of 1998 in Ridge Crest, CA. It had been a street Shelby since it was sold new in 1966. It was originally an Automatic, rare since it was not a Hertz car. Mr. Bruce trailered the car to his home in Colorado and disassembled the entire car. Once the car was down to its tub, he delivered it to Walt Hane in Evergreen, CO. Walt was SCCA B-Production National Champion in a Shelby GT-350R, beating, among others Mark Donohue in a similar car. Walt and his son Chip removed the drive train and suspension and had the car dipped. Once back from the dipper, the car was clean and the process was begun to build a roll cage and stitch weld the entire body. All suspension pick up points were strengthend and reinforced. Walt and Chip built the rear suspension and the car was painted by Bob Hill in Colorado Springs. During this process Mr. Bruce contacted Curt Vogt at Cobra Automotive to build an engine for the car. It was decided to use a Boss 302 4 bolt main block which was destroked to 292 cubic inches. The purpose of this approach was to allow the car to be legal in most vintage events. The finished motor dyno tested at 475 HP. Cobra Automotive front suspension components were used along with the correct disc brakes with a Tilton Master Cylinder and adjustable bias. The transmission is a Tex Racing Super T10 along with a Tex Racing Drive Shaft. The rear end is the 9 Ford Detroit Locker with two ratios, 4:30 and 3:89. The car has a Hurst Shifter and the clutch was provided new by Walt Hane in 2012. Radiator is a C/R aluminum with a heat exchange unit for the oil cooler. There is also an air/ail oil cooler 12" X 6". Oil temps never go above 200 degrees even on the hottest summer days. Water temps will run in the 210 degree range. MSD billet distributor and MSD 6AL ignition. 3 quart Accusump system. Halon fire system. 15 gallon Fuel Safe cell with Holly Blue fuel pump. Fram HPG1 fuel filter. Cool shirt system setup is available. GT-350R Model dash with period correct Autometer gauges. Dual sensor EGT gauge and low oil pressure light. Original Shelby wooden steering wheel. Driver and passenger Sparco seats and Simpson 5 way belt system. Roll bar mounted video mount. American Torq-Thrust 15"X8" wheels with Goodyear Blue Streak Racing Tires 6.00"X15" fronts and 7:00"X15" rears with two sets available. It is very clean for a race car and has never had a mechancial DNF. The car is in ready to race condition and won two CVAR races in 2012.
