Description:
RF84 VAN DIEMEN Chassis # 858 Registered with CASC and SCCA Custom Enclosed 16ft Trailer FORD Kent 1600 cc engine (re-built by Mortimer racing) Blueprinted Webber carb Craig Taylor re-built Gearbox Two sets of rims: (one is a Van Diemen set and the other is a Compomotive). One mounted set has Hoosier R35 tires (used during the 2004 Southeast Invitational Challenge) One mounted set has current spec Hoosier Rain tires (one heat cycle) I purchased the car in May 2004, to compete in the SCCA 2004 SARRC the Southeast US Regional Championship. The car did not have a current SCCA registration so I had to do all the necessary work needed to get a homologation from SCCA. I entered my first event in June and raced six weekends(8 Races) with the car. Finished 2nd in the 2004 SARRC during my first championship racing cars. Three victories, two 2nd places one 3rd one 4th and one 5th. I finished every race I entered and had no major problems all season. I am forced to sell the car as I move on to a different series. This is an exceptional beginners car and one that I would keep had I had the choice. Car holds the current FF record at Barber motorsports park. With the right setup this car can be very competitive. Has modifications over original 84 Van Diemen (low side radiators, more aerodynamic bodywork) more information at: http://www.spiderspeed.com/vandiemen.html
History
The car was purchased by an “unknown” racer in Trois Riviere, Quebec, Canada in 1984. The car was configured for the FORMULA-2000 series at the time since this was the Canadian professional series. The car was used as a FORMULA-2000 class for the three consecutive years. In 1987 it was sold to SCOTT GOODYEAR (former indy CART racer) for one of the event in Trois Riviere (Scott crashed his own car during qualifications). Scott Goodyear went on and won the race event after which he re-sold the car to another racer “Mark Jervais” of Montreal. Mark Jervais used the car from 1987 to 1990 for regional events in the Quebec region. The car was converted to be a FORMULA-1600 (i.e. wings were removed and the engine was replaced with a 1600 cc in place of the 2000 cc engine.) In 1991 the car was sold to Robert Peters of Ottawa. The car was developed further by having side pods installed along the side of the car and mounting the cooling radiators within the two side pods. This modifications decreased the overall center of gravity of the car. Rob Peters entered the car as a FORMULA-1600 Class-B in the Canadian professional series ESSO- PROTEC. In the next four years Rob gradually moved up in the series championship. In 1993 he was fourth in the points standing at the end of the season, and in 1994 he took second place in the championship of the same ESSO-PROTEC series. In 1995 the car was purchased by Pier. During 1995 and 1996 Pier entered practice events and regional races held at race tracks close to Montreal and Shannonville. From 1997 to 1998 competed in the full Quebec region series “Circuit Routier F1600”. Finishing 7th in 1997 and 2nd in 1998. 1999 was a development year for Pier In 2000 and 2001 Pier entered the full Ontario region series in F1600. He finished second in the championship points in 2000 and 1st in 2001. The car was greatly improved and super fast on circuits like MOSPORT. The car was sold to Steve Falusi in 2002, Steve competed in numerous RCCA sanctioned events in the Northeast US until 2003. Steve had the most wins in class (Tyro Class) for 2003, and shared the 2003 championship. I purchased the car in May 2004, to compete in the SCCA 2004 SARRC the Southeast US Regional Championship. The car did not have a current SCCA registration so I had to do all the necessary work needed to get a homologation from SCCA. I entered my first event in June and raced six weekends(8 Races) with the car. Finished 2nd in the 2004 SARRC during my first championship racing cars.
