Description:
Ford competition "bullit" synchromesh with ratios of 2.3, 1.7, 1.28. 1.0 inside 2821E case and very rare GW magnesium tailhousing which saves 10 lbs over the cast iron unit. Care was taken during assembly as the inside bolts are safety wired. Some of the Ford competition green paint remains on the castings. The gear set is believed to be produced by Jack Knight, but no confirmation. Ford only acknowledges that it was built outside. Excerpt from paper “The Selection Process†by Jeff Mann on ford_gearboxes.pdf Ford was obviously serious about the unit’s competitive future because during the early 1970s magnesium casting for the gearbox case and tailshaft were produced, though these were by no means cheap. Unfortunately, no close-ratio gear kit was available to complement these now very rare components, except the non-Ford produced Bullit type. The magnesium gearbox case offered a weight saving over the standard cast iron case of 11lbs and the magnesium gearbox extension housing weight saving over the standard cast iron housing of 10lbs. I had heard of these gears being produced by Jack Knight, but cannot find verification. Whoever put this gearbox together, took great pride, as the inside bolts are even safety wired.
