Description:

Built by Rod Davis from a brand new car to SCCA B/S spec in July of 1967 and raced by him through 1990. I have removed the updated flares and the body now is back to period correct spec. This is a well sorted race car and a true joy to drive. In addition to the SCCA log books, also included is a set of original SCCA recognition forms from 1969 and a revised set from 1973. FIA blue stamp papers. Original owners handbook. Ford service booklet. List of races from start thru present. Some race result sheets. Magazine story about the car in "Classic and Sportscar" magazine and another magazine article (Mustang & Fords) showing it on track at Lime Rock Park for the Shelby Convention (SAAC 25). Chassis and engine set-up sheets. Receipts from the recent engine build. Owner history. A converted 8mm movie to VHS of in-car and trackside of the car at Riverside in 1967 and a later in-car video of the car at Riverside in the 1980's.

History

Brief race history: As a brand new 1966 MK1 Lotus Cortina it was shown for sale at the Bill Stroppe facility in Signal Hill, California. It was then moved to C. Bob Autrey Motors in Long Beach where Rod Davis purchased the car in July 1967 at a reduced price which included a race sponsorship deal. Within 2 weeks it was ready to race. The car first raced at Riverside in 1967. It ran a couple hill climbs at Clifton, Arizona. In 1968 he took 2nd place and in 1969 1st place. Its first win was at Riverside in 1971. Also in 1971 at TWS (Texas World Spdwy) he set a track record. In that race he had the Cortina at its fastest top speed of 138mph (at RIR highest was 127mph at that time). At Dallas Motor Speedway the same year he set another lap record. 1973 at Mexico City, the old Autodromo Ricardo Rodriquez Circuit he ran a 6-hour FIA endurance race, set a track record but broke a con-rod at the 5 hr mark of the race. 1980 at RIR another lap record was set. On October 2nd 1982 it was crashed very hard at Riverside with extensive damage to the left front. A rust free shell was sourced and all good components were transferred over to the donor shell, such as roll cage, drive train, suspension, doors, trunk lid, seat, gauges, etc. I have several detailed photos through the entire rebuild showing the cars side by side thru this rebuild. In 4/17/83 the rebuilt car was inspected by SCCA and given a "Clean Car Certificate" and the SCCA logbook was stamped/approved. 1985 the car ran an IMSA support race at RIR and finished 1st in class. 1988 at Palm Springs Grand Prix the car finished 1st in class ahead of Parnelli Jones. 1987 Lime Rock Trans-Am reunion. 2004 VIR Gold Cup Historic's. UPDATE: Car has been accepted for the Rolex Vintage Festival at Lime Rock Park Connecticut on Labor Day weekend Sept 3rd-6th. We plan on having the car at the August 31st test/tune day as well as racing the car the following weekend... if not sold before hand.
