1968 Lotus 51 - SOLD

Description:
The car was built in March of 1968 and is registered as such on the Lotus Formula Ford Register. The frame of the car was damaged in an accident in 2000, so a new frame was built - the original frame obviously comes with the car. The car is, therefore, fully vintage legal - a great way to have a significant historic formula car yet race on modern frame metal and welds! Many of the suspension parts were replaced at the time of rebuild and new Penske shocks were added. Steering arms and steering u.j. were replaced this winter. The engine was also replaced then and was rebuilt over this past winter by John Dodd of BVR Cars with a new crank, new oil pump, fuel pump etc and all seals/bearings replaced. The car was dynoed at just over 110 h.p. The gearbox is a Hewland Mk 8/9 that was bought from Britain West Motors in 2000. The original body was professionally painted last season and is a real head turner. Also included is a complete new 3 piece body bought from Peter Denty Racing in the U.K. but which arrived too late to be installed for this season. The car has done 1 test day and 1 race weekend since the full engine rebuild. It has had it's 2004 Annual Inspection. The car is professionally maintained by BVR Cars after each event, so is in great shape, and it may be the oldest Formula Ford in Canada. It is a complete turnkey car - it is all ready for it's next grid.
History
The car was originally shipped to Jim Russell Racing in California in 1968 and spent many years in California before coming to Canada in 2000. Since then, it has appeared regularly at Canadian Circuits - Shannonville, Mosport and Mont Tremblant.
Competition History
Club raced with VARAC in Canada - the car is competetive, but the driver isn't!
