PRICE REDUCTION... $29,900 REDUCED TO $26,900! 1969 Lotus 61 Formula Ford for sale. Fully Restored Recently completed frame off restoration- Rebuilt Holbay prepared Ford Kent engine- Overhead valve KENT 1600cc 4 cylinder- One of only 248 Lotus 61s built- 3 owner car- The first owner is listed as "President of the Ford Motor Company", Henry Ford II.- Used as backdrop at the the New York & Chicago Auto Shows- Only started 4 times and never driven whilst owned by Ford- Bought by the 2nd owner, Walt Hane, in 1973- Raced 13 times in the 1970's in SCCA events- Reported to be the most original model of this car known to exist- The nose has never being modified for better cooling- The suspension mounts have never been moved to accomodate slick tires- Includes some spares: Set of 4 American Racing Magnesium wheels as used when this car race as a Formula A car, spare gear sets, original alloy fuel tank, chrome springs, and more..... $29,900 RESTORATION NOTES: Frame completely stripped and inspected for any faults. (none found) Frame was re-painted as original. The engine was overhauled including: Cylinder clearance was honed to 0.003". Deck blocked, line honed, new bearings, freeze plugs, new main and rod bearings- Crank, rods, and pistons were reconditioned to Lotus Holbay Specs. - Head rebuilt with new valves, springs, etc. The head is a "D" ported head.- Everything was either new or re-conditioned to new specs before assembly.- MORE DETAILS: Body was completely stripped to glass, all stress cracks repaired, primed and painted to the 1969 New York Auto Show paint scheme. The brake masters, calipers, slave cylinders were rebuilt as new. Upgrade pressure side of the Holbay oil pump with new AN 10 lines and fittings Also reportedly shown at the auto show in London by Lotus, and was said to be a gift from Colin Chapman to Henry Ford II in 1969. Ford had it repainted, Mustang blue (Acapulco blue) with White side stripes, and formula ford written on the sides with the Ford logos. Walt Hane, a former Ford experimental engineer, acquired the car from Ford so that he could install a turbo charged Ford Kent engine to be used as a trainer for Indy drivers. He convinced SCCA to allow it in Formula A. It ran a few times in 1974 and 1975 with a turbo engine in regional events.
