Description:
This Mk1 Cortina has been a race car since 1967. It regularly dominated West Coast SCCA Nationals
but also had some appearences in FIA and Trans Am events. Recently tidied and resprayed and with a well documented
engine rebuild it is ready for historic racing.
History
This Lotus Cortina is as proper a vintage race car as can be. The current owner is the second
owner, the first owner bought it off the showroom floor in 1967 and immediately converted it to a race car
and
ran it continuously for over 20 years. Voluminous documentation includes the original bill of sale and
SCCA logbooks from first issue in 1972. The car regularly dominated it's class in West Coast events,
holding lap records at Willow Springs, Riverside, and Texas. While the bulk of the car's race entries were
SCCA Nationals, the car competed in a number of International events, including the Mexican 6 hour
FIA event in 1973. The car finished second overall at the 1982 Riverside 12 hours, and has numerous
enduro victories at Willow and Riverside. The Cortina even competed in a Trans Am event in the under 2
liter class, making it a Trans Am Reunion candidate.
The current owner has recieved approval from the SVRA to run the car and has a letter to that effect
. The SVRA only requested a trim
of one inch from the original flares. This was performed prior to the recent repaint. On the current A008s the
car would be classified in 8H, with vintage Dunlops it would be permitted in 8G.
