1972 Mallock U2 Mk11b Clubman Supersports - SOLD

F1 Authentics 3

This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.

Description:

The engine was rebuilt with many new parts four weekends ago. With this mild (130 Hp.) engine
the car runs with the fastest Historic or Club Formula Fords (Lola T-340, etc.). The car has totally
outstanding handling, probably better than an early 70s Formula Ford. Mk11s were raced in period with
Lotus Twincams and Cosworth BDAs and therefore there is the potential here to build a supercar having
Formula Atlantic performance levels. This performance level can be upgraded to one step at a time.
Interestingly, the car has the ability to run as a sports racer or F2, F3, or FF, removing the fenders.
At 970 lbs. is just above the Formula Ford weight minimum!

History

Sir Arthur Mallock, Like Colin Chapman of Lotus and Lola's Eric Broadley, came from the post-war
motorsports crucible of the 750 Motor Club and Specials building. The first front engined U2 was built
for the 1172 formula in 1958. In 1960 two chassis were adapted for Formula Junior. The introduction of
the Clubmans Formula in 1965 finally established Mallock as a volume constructor. The firm produced a
number of Formula Ford designs, beginning with an adapted Mk6 which participated in the first ever
Formula Ford race in 1967. The Mk9 for '69 and '70 and the Mk9b for '71 provided customer Formula Fords
while the works ran a trick Mk9DD featuring a DeDion rear.

Competition History

The car has qualified in the top three for the last three outings in a combined Formula/Sports
Racer grid. In it's last event it came 2nd overall, 1st in class in a 20 car grid.
