Rare opportunity to purchase a bit of genuine British racing history: one of only seven Marcos Fastback GTs to have survived from the original production run of 18 cars in 1963( and of actually only 2 running examples worldwide), this is chassis 3018, Jem Marshs personal championship winning car with huge history and FIA GTS-class papers. Powered by a period-correct full race Ford Cosworth all steel 1100 cc engine with geardriven camshaft and dry-sump oil system , and fitted with a rare original Hewland five speed gearbox, coupled to a LSD 4.7 differential plus various other ratios. Original car in every respect. This is the only Fastback left remaining that was built with the more aerodynamic front and is presented here as represented in numerous books and magazines. A real Goodwood-competitor and Abarth-killer, it would be perfect for the Monterey Historic Races. ready to go.
History
Only 18 total Marcos Fastback were built in 1963,and nearly all became racecars. Some of them competed in World Championship events such as Nurburgring 1000km and 500km endurance (1963, 1964, 1965). Terry Sanger, Jacky Oliver and Derek Bell were amongst the drivers, who started their careers in Marcos Fastback GTs, following the footsteps of young Jackie Stewart who had begun his racing endeavours in a similar Marcos 1000GT a few years prior. Chassis #3018 is the last Fastback built and proved itself a championship winning car in the hands of Marcos co-founder Jem Marsh, having been fitted with lightweight body and more aerodynamic front bonnet .Its chassis is the famous Frank Costin (Vanwall, Lotus, Lister etc) plywood-monocoque with further refinements by Dennis Adams. The Marcos Fastback cars were FIA homologated in the GT category already in early 1963 ,FIA form 33b . The interior of this race car has been superbly maintained with all personal features of Jem Marsh still present, fully original and with real 1960s charm and patina. It even has the original old Marcos badge on the bonnet, which is complete different from later 1800 series badge. Marcos Fastback GT #3018 and its history are featured in many books and magazins. Competitive runner in FIA championship events and a fascinating technological design that pleases crowds and rewards its drivers with its stable, predictable handling and precise mannersPerformance Data
