Description:
A true time warp. ADF Mk II chassis 002 is the very first production Automotive Development ADF Mk II Formula Ford and is the twin to prototype chassis 001 (the latter having scored the first of the marque's three SCCA National Championship wins upon the design's debut at the 1973 Runoffs at Road Atlanta). The ADF Mk II was designer David Bruns' first world-beater prior to creation of the game- changing and dominant Swift DB-1 in 1983. Amazingly, chassis 002 has had relatively little use, having been in storage since the early 1980s. It has the beautiful and original, narrow cockpit, tall air box top section (the only one left in the world) and rare 1973-75 style side pods and nose cone. It has the original Automotive Development uprated motor. The only significant mod is an in-period, factory- installed front roll hoop and forward facing rear roll hoop braces that fit neatly beneath the bodywork. The car has been in the care of Paul White, the founder of Automotive Development and he can provide insight into all aspects of its condition. It is complete save for fuel cell and oil tank -- which have decayed with age. Replacements have been previously sourced by Porter Racing.
History
Chassis 002 was purchased new by Richard Shirey in 1974. He drove it to many victories in SCCA competition, including several epic Riverside Nationals and Sears Point Pro races against the best drivers and factory teams of the day, finishing first in the highly-competitive Southern Pacific Division in 1975. The car was last raced by noted Southern California prep shop owner, Jack Crone in the late 1970s early 1980s. Owner can provide contact information for both individuals.
Competition History
SCCA Riverside National victories, Sears Point Pro Races. The car to beat "Back In The Day". First 100 mph Avg. speed FF race winner at Riverside 1975.
