Ray Caldwell created Autodynamics in 1962. His first FVee (D1-Mark I) was ready for the 1964 SCCA season, and Caldwell drove it to a SCCA national championship. He utilized a Volkswagen 1200cc (1192 cc) engine, 4-speed transmission with trailing link front suspension and rear swing axle. The body was constructed from fiberglass and rested on a space frame chassis.In 1967, the D-4 was introduced, and it had a new chassis design and improved suspension components. The D4-A was made available for customers who required more room in the cockpit. A total of 148 of these more accommodating FV chassis were delivered by Autodynamics. The #067 Autodynamics D4-A Mark IV is an excellent example of a totally and properly restored vintage legal Formula VW race car including: reconditioned, damage-free chassis, rebuilt and balanced VeeTech race engine ,total trans axle assembly reconditioned,new front/rear brake assembly with new clutch and brake hydraulics, new gauges and wiring harnesses, new fuel cell bladders, new 5-point Corbeau Camlock SFI 16.1 seat belt harness, fresh Hoosier FV spec race tires, proper suspension and alignment adjustment. Absolutely race-ready for 2019 season !! Will assist for domestic or international shipment.


History

The Purple Patch Motorsports #067 FV has been recently (2017-18) professionally and meticulously restored. There are two continuous SCCA log books with over 30 events (drivers schools and regional races) from 10/72 until 11/82. Participating events listed were Watkins Glen, Pocono, Summit Point, Lime Rock, and Bryar. First vintage race BEFORE restoration was 9/08 VIR event with a DNS. There have been five vintage events since completing the 2017-2018 restoration - 7/18 PVGP Pittrace ,9/18 Put-in-Bay Reunion , 11/18 VDCA Historics @ Road Atlanta and 12/10 VDCA RRR Season Finale and VDCA 17th Annual Wild Hare .
