Historic Factory Entry in the Original SCCA Tran/Am Series. 1971 Triumph Vitesse Trans/Am. Original British Leyland Engineering Department exercise into the 2.5L Challenge Trans/Am Race Series. Constructed by Triumph's West Coast Racing Department, where then Director "Kas" Kastner, with $75,000. of Leyland Engineering Department funding developed the Vitesse into a potent 2.5L Challenge Trans/Am Racer. Equipped with the Triumph inline six with triple, twin choke Webers it is rated at 225 HP. A 5spd. Close ratio, Straight Cut Houseman Gearbox and a Quaiff Geared Diff. All independent suspension and four wheel discs. Today the Vitesse is a winner in class, winning more than 50 Historic Races and featured in Classic & Sports Car and Vintage Motorsports Magazines.


History

As an entry into the U. S. automobile market, British Leyland secretively imported a Works Triumph Vitesse through Canada and onto Triumph's West Coast Competition Department. It was R. W. "Kas" Kastner, as Triumph's West Coast Compition Director that in 1970, with $75,000. of British leyland funding developed the Vitesse into a potentially winning 2.5L Challege race car in the original SCCA Trans/Am Race Series. Having competed in four original Trans/Am Races in 1971, British Leyland dropped the marketing of the Vitesse Model, hence not comtinuing the funding of the Trans/Am Vitesse as well. In 1972, three time SCCA National Champion, Ric Cline aquired the Vitesse. As a dominant race car in the B-Sedan class the Vitesse won a multitude of races in the Southeast Region in SCCA National Races. The Vitesse went on to compete in SCCA's National Runoffs three times, Nearly winning once! During the late 1970's the Vitesse was purchased by South Carolina's, Arno Frosh. Frosh raced the car in SCCA continually until it was sold to Ralph Thomas in 1988. After a complete groundup restoration the Vitesse re-debut at Road Atlanta for the "Walter Mitty, where it finished it's race in second. The Vitesse has won more than 50 Historic Races including a 2.5L Challenge win and 7th. overall against seven 2.5L Challenge Race Cars and 50 big bore Trans/Am Race Cars at the All Trans/Race at watkins Glen. In addition, the Vitesse won several other 2.5L Challenge Trans/Am Races and wins at the All Triumph Races at Road America and Mid Ohio. The Vitesse has been in many magazines, including features in Classic & Thoroughbred and Vintage Motorsports.
