Description:
The car was built in 1998 for the Porsche Exchange (Porsche dealer in Highland Pk.) by me and some of the other techs that work there. We ran it that season in SCCA at BHF , Road America and Rt66. The car finished first in ITS for the Castrol Challenge series in Chi region SCCA. After that year the car pretty much sat until this January when we rebuilt the motor and freshened it for PCA track use and solo events. We ran 4 solo events and 1 PCA event at Road America this season. (Ran 2:50.0 in open lapping ) The car is turnkey as it sits now, however would need some changes to run ITS as we set it up for more of a track car. The car is owned by the dealership and i am trying to locate a buyer for it, since I know all about the car. As far as how it is equipped is as follows: Engine-- Stock 944 longblock, Balanced rods, pistons, crank, Total Seal piston rings in january, New rod and main bearings and all seals, fresh valve job, cam and balance shaft belts, webcam (ITS grind "everyone uses"), solid alum. motor mounts(Racer's Group) non-AC alternator mount, power steering removed, Hi output coil, Remote oil cooler, Electric Accusump, Air/oil seperator, Aeroquip oil lines, chipped ECU, Turbo S oil pan, turbo oil console, turbo flywheel and clutch, new crank sensors, 993 throttle body, custom built air intake box, Stahl header system, flowmaster muffler, fresh cooling system hoses. We dynoed the engine at 140hp at rear wheels. Trans-- The key to this car going fast is the specially made 4.25:1 Ring & pinion made by Houseman, A turbo limited slip Diff with turbo external oil cooler with aeroquip lines. Suspension-- 968 club sport sway bars( rear adjustable) Bilstein coil over fr. struts with 600# springs, turbo S fr control arms with turbo tie rods, adjustable upper camber lates, Brey-Krause stress bar, Momo steering wheel, 30mm drilled torsion bars in the rear (Racer's Group) with Bilstein shocks. Brakes-- SS lines, stock calipers and disks, Hawk blue pads in front with cooling ducts, tilton bias valve, Ate blue fluid Safety-- Welded Autopower 6 point cage, Momo driver's seat with Simpson 5 point belts(out of date), Kill switch on dash, 5lb. electric on board fire system. seat back brace adjustable, window net. Body-- 1986 944/2, sunroof removed and panel from non-sunroof car covering hole, lexan side and 1/4 windows, interior stripped, stock passenger seat available (removed now), custom made removeable front airdam, headlight linkages removed, Excellent White ( from '97 911 turboS) paintjob, frame was checked for straightness prior to paintin (Ultimate Paintshop. ) Unfortunately the blue graphics and letters on it were painted on by a signpainter. I believe, with a lot of elbow grease they they will buff off. Stock dash was removed and Carbon Fiber dash made to replace for switches and gauge pod, heater core and box remover, wipers are there, but not wired. Electrical system-- Battery box from a boxster mounted in rear tire well, 80 amp battery, stock alternator, stock fusebox was removed (mouse damage) and 911 one installed with 10 fuses, all interior harnesses removed and fabricated ones for Autometer gauges (Tach, Opres, volt, fuel, Otemp, Wtemp) Wheels--Has 17" BBS racing wheels with fresh Yokohama tires, Spare BBS 15" wheels with old Hoosiers included.(ITS) We have an SCCA and PCA log book for the car. Lap times in 1998 at BHF were in the 1:26 range, which was about 3 sec from lap record. That was as we were sorting out the car. At RA we were in the 2:48 range. With only one full season under our belt, we were optomistic that we could have easily wrung out those 3 more sec. with learning the car alone. We figured that about $40 K was spent in the initial setup of this car. The car is turnkey right now for PCA events, and could probably run as an ITE car now for SCCA ( would have to check rules though). To convert back to ITS would involve mostly minor body changes such as window glass, headlights, door and interior trim, dash and heater assemblies, battery relocation, throttlebody, possibly the front spoiler, 15" tires. The best way to accomplish that would be with one of the many 944 parts/cars i see on Ebay.
